STARTING A NEW BULLET JOURNAL

Meet Luma

The first page of my new bullet journal is typically dedicated to displaying the name of the journal. If you’ve been following along my channel for a while, then you know one of the things I love to do is name my bullet journals— it’s really helpful from an organizational perspective when I want to reference old spreads/journals, but it’s also just fun to give each journal a defining era.

I sometimes struggle to figure out a name but this one came pretty quickly to me once I saw this beautiful yellow journal in person...the only part I hesitated on is the fact that it wasn’t an ‘’H’’ name, which is a theme I’ve been sticking to for all my bullet journals. But sometimes shaking things up can be fun, so I’d like to introduce you to LUMA. Luma is a name with Latin origin that means ‘’light’’, so I’m sure you can now understand why the yellow journal was a huge influence and why I ended up drawing a sun on the name page.

Crossword Theme of the Year

One of my best friends, Maddy (who you’ve probably seen pop up in blogs and on my Instagram, stories) has over the last few months become obsessed with doing New York Times crossword puzzles and thus the concept of a crossword puzzle spread to emphasize words/themes that I want to prioritize for the second half of 2021 popped into my head.

The crossword template itself was created online through a crossword generator and then I copied it into my journal using the black sharpie S-gel pen— one of my favourite black pens these days because of quickly it dries.

At the bottom of the page, I added in all the hints for the puzzle that, for the purpose of this spread, are really just adding in the context behind why these words were chosen.

Reading Tracker

At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to read 100 books…which is proving to be an ambitious goal because I’ve only read 40 books so far in 2021. However, I’m still keeping hope alive that I can push ahead this summer so I decided to create this reading tracker for the remaining 60 books I need to read in the next 6 months (just saying that sentence is making me sweat a bit, haha).

Memory Log

I’m always talking about how wild it is that time seems to be flying by— something I’m sure you all can relate to— so I thought it’d be sweet to have a little spot set aside at the beginning of this journal where I can go each month to record a memory I want to keep with me. It’s a small little box for each month, so not a lot of room for major details, but it’s big enough to get the essence of the memory recorded.

The spread itself is pretty simple but it was looking a little too plain for my taste so the simple addition of some drop shadows added quite the touch here.

Quote + Affirmations Log

Since this journal is named Luma and I have already drawn a sun doodle, it felt only fitting to create a spread with a moon doodle. Below the doodle is a blank spot for me to record any quotes or affirmations that I come across and want to remember....these two pages have a strong ‘record keeping’ theme… I love it when there’s that link between two pages.

“Media I’m Loving” + Toronto Places to Visit

This page has three rectangles: one for recording movies and tv shows I’m watching, one for podcasts I’m loving, and one for songs that I keep playing on repeat.

Summer is here and with the warmer weather, I get excited to do more buzzing around Toronto so I wanted to create a page where I can take notes of different places I want to go to. I divided the page into quarters for making notes of coffee and ice cream shops I want to visit, restaurants I want to try, small businesses I want to support, and areas of the city I want to go to.
